Membership Inquiry

URMMA welcomes the membership of those Utah municipalities dedicated to improving their communities through the prevention and control of loss who are willing to commit time, effort, and funds to protect citizens, employees, and public resources. We welcome municipalities who share our values, rather than those who are just looking for cheap insurance.

Those municipalities who would like more information about URMMA may contact Dean Steel, URMMA’s CEO at (801) 225-6692.

URMMA’s Admission Standards

Consideration Ideals

A municipality may be considered for membership in the Association if it meets the following:

  1. It completes the application for membership and provides the necessary information required for consideration.
  2. It has previously demonstrated a commitment to risk management.
  3. It has reviewed the Association's Interlocal Agreement, Bylaws, Joint Protection Program and Risk Management Program and agrees to abide by them.
  4. Its governing body approves the Interlocal Agreement.

Application Requirements

All applicants shall submit the following as a part of their application:

  1. The completed application form.
  2. A written statement confirming that it has reviewed the documents outlined in number 3 above and concurs with them.
  3. A detailed loss run for all liability insurance claims and property claims filed with the municipality during the last 5 years showing the date of each loss, the name of the claimant, the nature of the claim, all amounts paid in relation to these claims and all amounts reserved to settle or defend these claims.
  4. A written statement showing all amounts paid for liability and property insurance for the previous 5 year period. This statement must include, the limits of the coverage provided, the amounts of deductibles in force during each year of coverage and the names of the insurance companies that provided the coverage.
  5. A copy of the municipality's last completed audit.

Upon receiving an application for membership, the URMMA staff will complete an evaluation and inspection of the prospective member and submit a written report to URMMA's Executive Committee with specific findings and recommendations. The Executive Committee will review the application and report at its next regular meeting and may approve, approve with conditions or deny the membership application.

Newly created cities: Recently incorporated cities will be asked for some general information about the city and must still approve the Interlocal Agreement and make the commitment to risk management expected of all the members.
