Retired Battalion Chief
Ryan is a retired Special Operations and Training Battalion Chief with the Orem Fire Department. He has been an FAA licensed pilot for 23 years. He has 17 years of remote control helicopter, airplane, jet and drone experience. He previously served as a Program Manager for the Utah Fire & Rescue Academy, with responsibility for curriculum development and management of the Command Training Center and Hazardous Materials Technician programs.
Ryan has presented on Unmanned Aerial Systems at FDIC, which is the largest international firefighter conference, and Fire Rescue International, presented by the International Fire Chiefs, as well as the Association of Unmanned Vehicle Systems International conference. He recently presented a UAS webinar for Fire Apparatus magazine. Ryan has assisted several public safety organizations in the United States on UAS program development and UAS platform selection.
Ryan currently serves as the Chair of the NFPA Technical Committee on Unmanned Aerial Systems. He is also a member of the ASTM/NFPA Joint Working Group on unmanned aerial systems. Ryan was a contributing author for the ANSI Standardization Roadmap for Unmanned Aircraft systems.
